REPRODUCTION IN ORGANISMS. part 1.
REPRODUCTION- biological process in which an organism gives rise to young ones.
LIFE SPAN - period from birth to death of an organism.
ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION-- off spring produced from a singe parent with out involvement of gamete formation
SEXUAL REPRODUCTION - offprings produced by the fuion of male and female gametes.
CLONE --Morphlogically and geneticaly identical offsprings produced as a result of asexual reprodduction.
METHODS OF ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION
1. CELL DIVISION -PROTISTA, MONERA
BINARY FISSION.... cell divides in to two halves eg AMOEBA , PARAMOECIUM
2. BUDDING-..Unequal cell division which produces small duds attached to the parent cell ;gets seperated and gives rise to new organism.
3 .ZOOSPORES- Motile and microscopic spores seen in algae and fungi.eg chlamydomonas.
4. CONIDIA-- Penicillium
5. BUD ...hydra
6. GEMMULES --sponge
VEGETATIVE PROPAGATION ---asexual reproduction in plants.
1. RHIZOME --ginger
2. TUBER ..potato
3. BULB . onion
4. BULBIL ..agave
5. LEAF BUDS ... bryophyllum
6OFFSET --water hyacinth
TERROR OF BENGAL . Excessive.growth of vegetatively propagating water hyacinth drains of oxygen from water bodies which leads to death of fishes .
